Selected high-grade magnesite or high-grade lightly calcined magnesia powder is used as raw materials and melted at high temperature in an electric arc furnace. The melt is then allowed to cool naturally, enabling periclase crystals to crystallize and grow from the melt. The periclase has well-developed, large crystals, a high direct bonding rate, a dense structure, and excellent high-temperature volume stability. It is an excellent raw material for the production of magnesia-carbon bricks, high-grade basic converters, and unshaped refractory materials.
